Special NeedsSensory-Friendly Events for Kids with Special Needs

We welcome all children who meet program guidelines to our events. However, we understand that some kids have special needs that make attending certain programs challenging.

Events designed especially for kids with special needs are listed as "sensory-friendly" below. Also listed are programs that, while designed for a more general audience, may have particular appeal.

  • Spring StoryWalk

    Where: Vattmann Park

  • Park-a-Day Challenge: Vattmann Park

    When: Monday, June 08, 2015 - 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
    Where: Vattmann Park

    Join us for an outdoor storytime from 11:30 to 12:00 when you take the Park-a-Day Challenge to play, discover new play spaces, and promote children's unstructured play. In partnership with the Alliance for Early Childhood and area park districts and libraries.

  • Park-a-Day Challenge: Townley Park

    When: Wednesday, June 10, 2015 - 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
    Where: Townley Park

    Join us for an outdoor storytime from 11:30 to 12:00 when you take the Park-a-Day Challenge to play, discover new play spaces, and promote children's unstructured play. In partnership with the Alliance for Early Childhood and area park districts and libraries.

  • Read to the Rhythm with Joel Frankel

    When: Thursday, June 18, 2015 - 3:30 PM - 4:15 PM
    Where: Auditorium

    Read, sing, clap, and dance to the rhythm of Joel Frankel's Musical Merriment. All ages. Free ticket required. Tickets are available in the Youth Services Department the evening before the program starting at 6:00 on a first-come, first-served basis. Limit 6 tickets per family.

  • Stories in Maple Park

    When: Monday, June 22, 2015 - 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
    Where: Maple Park

    Families are invited for stories and songs with Wilmette librarians. Please gather near the tennis courts.
