Special NeedsSensory-Friendly Events for Kids with Special Needs

We welcome all children who meet program guidelines to our events. However, we understand that some kids have special needs that make attending certain programs challenging.

Listed below are sensory-friendly movie screenings and encounters with outside performers. Also listed are programs that, while not designed specifically for kids with special needs, may have particular appeal.

Sensory-Friendly Events

  • Hands-On Science: Magnets (Grades K-2)

    When: Thursday, October 16, 2014 - 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Learn about magnets through fun, hands-on activities. For grades K-2. Registration starts October 2 for Wilmette and Kenilworth residents; October 9 for nonresidents. Sponsored by the Friends of the Wilmette Library.

  • Halloween Storytime

    When: Saturday, October 25, 2014 - 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Ghosts and goblins and witches, oh my! Enjoy seasonal stories, songs, and a craft that are more silly than spooky. Costumes encouraged. For ages 3 and up. No registration required.

    When: Tuesday, October 28, 2014 - 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room
