While the Wilmette Public Library loves literature and language, we also recognize the importance of technological literacy. We offer many programs for children that build scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills, from simple chemistry experiments and animal visits to computer programming and Lego robotics.

  • Lego Club
    When: Wednesday, December 02, 2015 - 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Your imagination is the only limit as you build alone or with a friend at this fun monthly club. Grades K-4. Sign-up starts November 18 for residents, November 25 for nonresidents.
  • Engineering Challenge: 3-D Shapes (Gr. K-2)
    When: Thursday, December 10, 2015 - 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Create your own 3-D shapes using craft sticks, straws, and tape. How big can your structure get? What can you use your shapes for? Join us to build and find out! Grades K-2. Sign-up starts November 27 for residents, December 3 for nonresidents.
  • Youth Chess Drop-In
    When: Sunday, December 13, 2015 - 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Want to play chess with other kids who love the game? Drop by for informal, fun competition supervised by parent volunteers. Bring chess sets and pieces, if possible. All levels of players are welcome, but prior knowledge of the pieces and how they move is helpful. Space is limited to the first 24 players to arrive.
  • Scratch Jr.
    When: Monday, December 21, 2015 - 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Take the very first steps towards learning computer programming by trying out this new iPad app, a version of the digital media design program Scratch created for younger kids. We'll make games and animations. Grades 1-3. Sign-up starts December 7 for residents, December 14 for nonresidents.
