tweensThe Wilmette Public Library offers programs for kids in grades 5–8. The Kids’ Library Council meets regularly to do art, technology, and book-related activities and also to plan events and spaces for the Library. We also offer technology programs and occasional special interest activities.

Upcoming Tween Events

  • Stop-Motion Animation
    When: Monday, December 19, 2016 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Make your own movie with the guidance of a professional filmmaker! You'll learn basic stop-motion animation using clay. Grades 5-8. Sign-up starts December 5 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, December 12 for nonresidents.
  • Sock Snowmen (Gr. 5-8)
    When: Tuesday, December 20, 2016 - 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Using socks, felt, and other notions, make a unique snowman guaranteed not to melt! All supplies provided, but feel free to bring extras. Grades 5-8. (Siblings in different age groups may attend together; please ask when you register.) Sign-up starts December 6 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, December 13 for nonresidents.

    Make string bracelets or key chains using macrame or finger weaving techniques. Grades 5-8. Sign-up starts December 12 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, December 19 for nonresidents.
  • Kids' Library Council: Meet the K-9 Reading Buddies
    When: Monday, January 09, 2017 - 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Meet the K-9 Reading Buddies of the North Shore! Learn how the program runs, how the dogs are trained, and, best of all, interact with the dogs. Also, help plan library spaces and programs for kids in grades 5-8. Snacks will be served. Grades 5-8. Sign-up starts December 26 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, January 2 for nonresidents.
  • Scratch Open Studio
    When: Monday, February 20, 2017 - 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Make your own games and animations using this digital media design program. We'll get you started, and then you'll have free time to work on your own creations. Grades 4-8. Sign-up starts February 6 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, February 13 for nonresidents.
