tweensThe Wilmette Public Library offers programs for kids in grades 5–8. The Kids’ Library Council meets regularly to do art, technology, and book-related activities and also to plan events and spaces for the Library. We also offer technology programs and occasional special interest activities.

  • Scratch Open Studio
    When: Monday, February 20, 2017 - 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Make your own games and animations using this digital media design program. We'll get you started, and then you'll have free time to work on your own creations. Grades 4-8. Sign-up starts February 6 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, February 13 for nonresidents.
  • Kids' Library Council: Get Ready for April Fools' Day
    When: Monday, March 13, 2017 - 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Come to this program and get a free iPhone! Find out whether or not we're joking, and prepare your own pranks and hoaxes ahead of April Fools' Day. Also, help plan library spaces and programs for kids in grades 5-8. Snacks will be served. Grades 5-8. Sign-up starts February 27 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, March 6 for nonresidents.
  • Boys and Books: Middle School & Junior High Edition
    When: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 - 7:00 PM - 7:45 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Enjoy snacks, activities, and discussion about The Boys in the Boat Young Readers Edition, by Daniel James Brown. Copies of the book will be available for checkout at the Youth Services Desk. Grades 5-8 with an adult. Sign-up starts February 21 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, February 28 for nonresidents.
  • DIY Phone Stickers
    When: Tuesday, March 28, 2017 - 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Decorate your phone or other gadget with stickers you make yourself using our vinyl cutter and design software. Grades 5-8. Registration starts March 14 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, March 21 for nonresidents.
  • Kids' Library Council: Meet a Therapy Cat
    When: Monday, April 03, 2017 - 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Meet Max, the reading therapy cat! A representative from pet therapy group Love on a Leash will introduce you to this amazing feline and explain how their program works. Also, help plan library spaces and programs for kids in grades 5-8. Snacks will be served. Grades 5-8. Sign-up starts March 20 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, March 27 for nonresidents.
