Magazine & Newspaper Articles Online
The Wilmette Public Library subscribes to many databases containing collections of newspapers and magazines. You can easily search these databases for articles either within the library or remotely, if you are a Wilmette or Kenilworth resident with a library card.
To search the databases, go the A-Z Databases page and locate the collection you'd like to use. You will need to provide your library card number for remote access. Read the help section of the particular database to find the best way to search. You may also call the Reference Desk, 847-256-6935, to speak with a librarian about searching the various databases.
For newspaper articles you may want to use the library's electronic subscriptions to the Chicago Tribune (1985-), the Chicago Tribune Historical (1849-1986), The New York Times (1980-), The New York Times Historical (1851-2003), and the Wall Street Journal. We also have print indexes and microfilm collections to the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Wilmette Life as well as an online index to the Wilmette Life. For more specific information about what time period these collections cover and what parts of the newspaper are indexed contact the Reference Desk.
For magazine articles, you will primarily use the Infotrac or Proquest databases. Within each of these databases, you can limit your search to certain publications. Please refer to the help section for more information, or contact the Reference Desk for further assistance.
